As luck would have it, it DID clear after I reprocessed the Jupiter picture from the day before. At 1410 GMT there was suddenly a bright Sun. The sunspot patterns were just amazing and just as good as what I’d seen on the Big Bear pictures earlier.
I also saw the Sun in hydrogen alpha light. Compared to the “white light” images it was rather quiet, apart from around the area with the sunspots, where there were a few plages and some small filaments.
