Jupiter shoot

It was nice to report a real breakthrough. My experiments with a moon filter with Jupiter led me to try it with a webcam and Barlow lens. I had thought about some constellation or Pleaides shots but Jupiter was the only real target. Visually, at low power, it was quite clear and the moons were very “strung out”, too far to get them in the webcam field of view. I had to settle for a shot with the 2 moons to the east.

I managed 4 decent imaging runs with the webcam and, although I’ve certainly seen better, the result was a huge improvement on previous efforts with the compact digital camera and webcam. It was very tricky hand-guiding a webcam at F/30 but I found the results well worth it.
