Summary

I started this astronomy blog in 2012. It records my observations and photographs since then. In May 2025, I was honoured to be recognised by Feedspot as one of the top 25 astronomy blogs. I was especially pleased with that, as most of the other blogs are by professional observatories.

Whilst I maintain a separate photo collection (https://www.flickr.com/photos/philippughastronomer/), this blog shows all photos, including some that did not quite work. Many of my shots are experimental where I push the boundaries of what I can achieve with my equipment.

My equipment is as follows:
  • 15x70 binoculars
  • 127mm Maksutov telescope or "the Mak" for short
  • Coronado PST narrowband solar telescope (a bit ancient now and not so good)
  • DSLR camera, used alone or with the Mak
  • Seestar S50 smart telescope
  • Two webcam-type devices that I sometimes use with the Mak
I also have an astronomy website, with lots of links to astronomy and other general interest websites:

From May 2025, I will include my monthly summary in the blog entry for that month, rather than my website.
