Writing Announcements

January 2nd 2022: 2021 An Astronomer's Year

This is now available on Kindle for £3 and paperback for $6. Issues with some previous e-Books have been solved and the size is better for Kindle formet.

You can order it here or from your country's Amazon page:

November 4th 2021 An Astronomer's Year

This will be out early in the new year. Not only will it give a great account of my photos and observations in 2021 but also contains updated sections of "Being An Astronomer" and "How to see the Sun". If you have an older edition of "Being an Astronomer" or anything from the Phil's Scribbling series, you only need to buy my annual summary to keep up to date.

2021 An Astronomer's Year will be the first of my annual summaries to be released in paperback.

November 2nd How to See the Sun

This is the third edition, has new photos, new descriptions on photo processing and a new section on quick shots with a DSLR.

August 5th The Quantum God

My market research suggested that people do not like books in A4 and US Letter size and prefer a coffee table size.

The “Coffee Table” edition of the Quantum God is exactly the same story, characters and words as the original but it is now available in Kindle e-Book and Paperback formats.

https://www.amazon.com/Quantum-God-Coffee-Table-ebook/dp/B09C17JB28/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=the+quantum+god+philip+pugh&qid=1628326405&s=digital-text&sr=1-1

The price difference between the paperback and e-book formats is due to printing costs of paperback books. Also, Amazon, probably made a mistake by changing the minimum price of e-books, to enable me to sell at a lower price.

For those of you who are not familiar with #TheQuantumGod, it is a theory that God is everywhere and everywhen, meaning that He or She is aware of everything that did or may have happened in the past and everything that might happen in the future. Note that the central character has a Christian leaning but considers that the idea (of the Quantum God) is that God exists but does not make any suggestions as to whether God is in a Christian sense, a Moslem sense or that of any particular religion. It also does not assume any gender that God might be, nor does it conclude that He or She is loving, malevolent or merely benign

The central character, Paul, does not have a scientific background past school Advanced Level but has a curious and enquiring mind. His earthly life is not an easy one and his curiosity is some sort of escape from his difficulties. Although told in the form of a novel (and in my opinion an adventure!), Paul’s thoughts and experiences question the nature of reality itself. The ending is not a good one in a happily-ever-after cliché but Paul ends with a sense of peace that had been absent from his lives.

August 2nd Being an Astronomer Fourth Edition

With shorter days and longer periods of darkness in the
northern hemisphere, the peak of the Perseid meteor shower will soon be upon
us, and it is now the start of the unofficial astronomy season in the northern
hemisphere. I have been reliably informed by the retail trade that it is the
time of year that they order new stock.

Many people thinking about “taking up” or “getting into” astronomy at this time of year but where do you start? Many people are put off starting because they consider it an expensive hobby or you need a degree in physics. Both are wrong! A few spare thousands and a physics degree do not do any harm but are far from necessary. A well-chosen pair of binoculars and a beginner book is all you need and we are talking less than £50 in British money.

You don’t need a Kindle to read the book, all you need is a PC, tablet or advanced telephone handset and you can download the Kindle app for free here:

https://www.amazon.com/b/ref=ruby_redirect?ie=UTF8&node=16571048011&pd_rd_w=RHxYq&pf_rd_p=ebe78bdb-26ff-494c-a78d-4af238cd6b78&pf_rd_r=TB8MP8FF2Q38BWKCT2B8&pd_rd_r=d2a229d7-512a-4cc5-aa58-b3a4127b9649&pd_rd_wg=UBzFC&qid=1627897496

In fact, the beginner book is only $3 in Kindle e-book format and equivalent price in other currencies, such as £2.16 in the UK.

Not only will this book teach you what you need to know to get started but will even show you that it is still possible to enjoy astronomy in the summer months.

You can buy it here: https://www.amazon.com/Being-Astronomer-Fourth-Philip-Pugh-ebook/dp/B09BFX1T1F/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=being+an+astronomer&qid=1627897976&s=digital-text&sr=1-1

There is no paperback edition for this edition, although one will be available at some time in the future.

If you have already bought a previous edition of “Being An

Astronomer”, all content updates are included in my annual summaries, such as:

February 23rd Release at Last!!!

The third edition of "2020 An Astronomer's Year" has improved graphics presentation that will be used for all my future releases: https://www.amazon.co.uk/2020-Astronomers-Year-Philip-Pugh-ebook/dp/B08X2ZBSWD/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=2020-Astronomers-Year-Philip-Pugh-ebook&qid=1614112663&s=digital-text&sr=1-3 #astronomy #Reading #WritingCommnunity

January 27th 2020 An Astronomer's Year

Ever heard of an author that recommends people not to buy a book? Well that is me. The graphics on the second edition are better than the first but I've only used it to test the graphics and, although it is technically for sale, you may as well wait for the third edition. Hopefully, all remaining issues will be fixed.

January 16th The Quantum God

This will be on free promotion on Kindle from midnight onwards:

Ever wondered what the true nature of the universe is? Could there be more than one? Where does God come into this, if at all? What if you were given an insight that showed you that reality is not all it seems? These questions are raised in this novel through a central character is both simple and complex in equal measures. He lives two whole lifetimes and an interlude of several years in between. He experiences the universe through eyes that are somewhat different from most people. He suffers emotional and physical pain, Is there a happy ending? Well, what does one define as "happy"?

Read now and find out!

January 8th 2020 An Astronomer's Year and Others

If you have bought or downloaded the book on free promotion, I will be releasing an updated version, which will have all or most of the graphics issues sorted out. It is quite a long process, so please be patient. Just keep watching this blog. I will also be looking at some of my other Kindle books.

January 3rd (2021) 2020 An Astronomer's Year

I managed to sort out the technical issues (well almost!). Some of the pictures have captions on the wrong page or look untidy. But the overall look and feel is not bad and the book gives a more than reasonable account of the year from my astronomical point of view. The highlight was the comet.

From January 8th to 12th the book will be on free promotion but, even so, it costs only $2.99,

January 2nd (2021) 2020 An Astronomer's Year

I have finished writing this book but, due to technical issues, the release has been delayed.

However, while we are waiting, you can read "Astrophotography with a DSLR" on free promotion from January 3rd to 7th (inclusive):

December 18th 2020 An Astronomer's Year

This will hit the virtual bookshelves early in January (hopefully). It will be on free promotion soon after launch. Unlike its predecessors, it will contain further "how to" sections. I have stopped updating booklets in the "Phil's Scribblings" series and will now include the information in my annual summaries instead.

As for my next project, I expect 2021 to be a poor year for writing, as I am expecting a busy year outside of astronomy. Obviously, I will be writing "2021 An Astronomer's Year" but I'm either going to start a retrospective on the decade or the "sequel" to #TheQuantumGod, which actually would follow a parrallel (?) timeline. If you have read #TheQuantumGod, you will understand what I mean!

November 11th 2020 An Astronomer's Year

I added a very brief introduction to photo processing.

October 31st 2020 An Astronomer's Year

This will be out early in the new year and will contain some updated information about tools and techniques. Most significantly, I have new comet photos and information about how to capture the phases of Venus with only a camera.

Past examples are:

July 7th Astrophotography with a DSLR

The third edition, showing more meteors and the approach of Venus to inferior conjunction is now out:

July 3rd Longer Term Plans

I will be revising each of the Phils Scribblings series to bring up to date with latest techniques and photographs.

As a possible idea, I will produce paperback versions which each contain about 400 words, with several booklets in one volume.

I will not be producing frequent new editions of Phils Scribblings booklets but will include any new information in the “20xx An Astronomer’s Year” and only release new versions of Phils Scribblings booklets when there has been substantial changes. Naturally, I will release “2020 An Astronomer’s Year” early in January 2021. This will include astronomical data for subsequent years.

I am considering a sequel to “The Quantum God” if there is sufficient interest from readers.

I will release new booklets in the Phil’s Scribblings series.

July 3rd Upcoming Releases

I have returned to work after four months where I was able to write prolifically. As I have other things to do, in addition to work and normal home life, I will not be able to provide specific details on exact release dates.

My next release (probably within a week!) is the 3rd edition of “Astrophotography with a DSLR”.

The paperback release of “Being an Astronomer” has proved rather troublesome may not happen at all, as I am getting nearer to sorting out the issues but there is no guarantee that I will ever succeed!

July 1st Launch

This is a new blog that provides news of my latest and upcoming book and other writing projects. It is aimed primarily at readers. My existing writing blog (http://sungazer127mak.blogspot.com/2020/01/2020-writing-blog.html) will continue but is more of interest to writers, such as those in the #WritingCommunity.

My most recent release is "The Quantum God", available in Kindle and Paperback formats:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08BR2JCFG/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i8

Paul, a man with many autistic traits is having difficulty coming to terms with life, the universe (or is it the multi-verse?) and everything. Despite having no formal education past A-level, he develops a breadth and depth of understanding way beyond that of most people. However, his understanding of Relativity and Quantum Mechanics is balanced by his lack of comprehension of his fellow humans. By a chance encounter, he meets a beautiful young woman who he knew at school. However, she is unwilling to commit to a shared future and he starts to doubt whether they will ever get married and have children and considers other options.

Although it is not always a pleasant experience, he gets help from a paranormal source and goes missing for over 80 years. He also discovers that he has a key (but not prominent) role in the development of the internet.
